Aly Hudson LLC also makes NovaCase: US Citizenship Test, a study app for the U.S. citizenship test for Android and iPhone. It is separate from the client portal and works differently. This section covers the app; the rest of this policy covers alyic.com and the portal.
- No account. The app has no sign-in and does not ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your progress stays on your phone. What you studied, your practice results, your interview date, your settings and any notes you write about your own N-400 are saved only on your phone. They are never sent to me, and I cannot see them. If two people study on one phone, each one's are kept apart. You can delete your notes in the app at any time. If your phone's own backup is on (Google on Android, iCloud on iPhone), they may be included in that backup, in your account with Google or Apple.
- The microphone is used only when you tap to answer out loud or to record yourself. Your phone's speech recognition (Google on Android, Apple on iPhone) turns your spoken answer into text - on the phone itself where it can, otherwise through Google's or Apple's service under their privacy policies. The app does not keep what you said. A practice recording you make stays on your phone, and the next one replaces it.
- Reading aloud uses your phone's own voice.
- Reminders are set on your phone. Nothing is sent from a server.
- Pro purchases are made through Google Play or the App Store, which handle the payment under their own privacy policies. I never see your card. The stores send me sales reports - such as the order number, date, price and country - which I keep as tax records. The app asks the store only whether Pro was bought on your account.
- No ads, no analytics and no tracking. The app has no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, and does not follow you across other apps or websites. It works without internet. It connects only to Google Play or the App Store for Pro, and to this website's file storage: to show your officials' photos and check for a newer list of officials, to look up your ZIP code's district (the app downloads your whole state's file and looks the ZIP code up on the phone - the ZIP code itself is never sent), and - after Pro is bought - to download the pictures and voices once and the coloring pages when you print them. Those downloads ask only for the files and send nothing about you or your studies; like any web server, the storage may briefly log the technical details of a request, such as the IP address and time.
- Deleting it: uninstalling the app deletes everything it saved on your phone.
- Who it is for: adults preparing for the citizenship interview. It is not meant for children under 13.
The app is general information for study, not legal advice. Questions about the app: write to me at a@alyic.com.
