I've prepared an updated template for filling out Form I-134, especially for fiancées.

This form (for K-1/K-2) is filled out ONLY on paper, not online. Only Ukrainians under the U4U program fill it out online.

How much income do you need for a K-1 visa?

Since March 1, 2026, the minimum annual income (100% of the poverty guideline in the USCIS I-864P table) is $21,640 for a household of two, plus $5,680 for each additional household member. Please note: adjustment of status (Form I-864) will require 125% - $27,050 for two, plus $7,100 for each additional person. The amounts are higher in Alaska and Hawaii.

How do you find the petitioner's annual income?

I recommend downloading the tax transcripts from irs.gov. On the Tax Return Transcript, look at the TOTAL INCOME line - that is the petitioner's annual income. This line exactly, not the others. I wrote about what to do if the income is not enough in the earlier version of this form guide.

Filling out Form I-134

  • Part 1, item 1 - check "Another individual who is the beneficiary".
  • Part 1, items 2-9 - fill in YOUR full name (not the U.S. citizen petitioner's; your patronymic is not a middle name), other names you have used (for example, your maiden name), date of birth, sex, the A-Number from the NOA2 (the petition approval notice), place of birth, citizenship and your international passport number (the one the visa goes in and that is listed in the DS-160). If you were married before, choose Divorced.
  • Part 2, items 10-12 - your current home address.
  • Part 2, items 13-15 - your contact information.
  • Part 2, item 16 - an approximate travel date (it does not matter) and check No End Date.
  • Part 2, items 17-21 - all you really need to give is your first and last name, date of birth, relationship to the beneficiary and $0. If you have minor children (under 21), list them too. Answer No to everything else.
  • Part 2, item 22 - you can leave it blank.
  • Part 3, items 1-2 - this is where everything about the petitioner (the U.S. citizen / your sponsor) begins: last name, first name, middle name, and any other names and last names used, if there were any.
  • Part 3, item 3 - the mailing address in the U.S.
  • Part 3, item 4 - the home address in the U.S., if different from the mailing address.
  • Part 3, items 6-7 - the petitioner's date of birth and place of birth.
  • Part 3, items 8-9 - most U.S. citizens will not have these; if the petitioner has one but does not remember it, it does not matter, you can skip it.
  • Part 3, item 10 - your relationship to the petitioner.
  • Part 3, item 11 - since only a U.S. citizen can file for a K-1, choose US Citizen.
  • Part 3, items 12-14 - the petitioner's work, job title, and the employer's name and address.
  • Part 3, item 15 - everything here is required: the petitioner's full name, date of birth, Self and the annual income (exactly the Total income), as well as all dependents from the tax returns.
  • Part 3, items 16-19 - No.
  • Part 3, item 20 - bank account balances; if the annual income is enough, you can leave this out.
  • Part 3, items 21-23 - if the petitioner has filed Form I-134 before (for example, for another fiancée), this must be listed.
  • Part 3, item 24 - you can write "See part 8" and describe there in detail what the petitioner undertakes to provide.
  • Part 4, item 1 - check that you (the beneficiary) understand English, or name the person who prepared the form for you.
  • Part 4, item 3 - you do not need to sign.
  • Part 5, item 1 - check the box.
  • Part 5, items 3-5 - the petitioner's contact information.
  • Part 5, item 6 - the petitioner (the U.S. citizen) must sign. An electronic signature is not allowed; you can print a scan of the signed original for the interview.

And finally, describe in detail what the petitioner promises to provide in the U.S.:

I intend to provide housing, transportation and all associated expenses to the beneficiary upon arrival and entire stay in the USA.

I hope this article helps, and I wish you a speedy reunion with the person you love! - Aly Hudson
